Vietnam Veterans Benefits Lawyers
Between January 9, 1962 and May 7, 1975, United States forces were deployed to Vietnam; unfortunately, our troops were exposed to a variety of toxic chemicals while in service. One particular toxic herbicide was Agent Orange.
Presumptions of Agent Orange Exposure
Vietnam veterans who were injured or developed serious medical issues as a direct result of service-related activities may be eligible for compensation benefits for their conditions. When discussing the prospect of disability compensation, the VA presumes that veterans of the Vietnam War were exposed to Agent Orange and other herbicides.
What this means is that veterans do not need to prove that they actually were exposed to Agent Orange as long as their service times fall between the above listed dates. However, Vietnam veteran benefit presumptions are not automatically bestowed on veterans who have diseases caused by herbicides that are not presumptive diseases. This includes:
- Blue Water Veterans
- those who served on military base in Thailand during Vietnam
- those who served in areas where herbicides were tested and stored outside of Vietnam.
For these veterans, medical proof of Agent Orange exposure must be provided to qualify for Vietnam veterans benefits.
