United States Veterans Administration

US Veterans Administration

The Department of Veterans Affairs, the VA, is a branch of the government designed to provide benefits, services, and assistance to United States veterans. One of the most important features of the Veterans Administration is their provision of disability benefits for veterans and their families.

Regional Offices

When you have a disability claim, the initial submission will be reviewed and a decision will be made that either grants your claim or rejects it. If you wish to appeal the decision, presenting evidence of your rebuttal to your regional office is the best way to ensure an expedited decision. The VA has regional offices around the country that will decide the outcome of your appeal based on your medical and factual evidence.

Board of Veterans’ Appeals

The next step up in the Veteran Administration is the Board of Veterans’ Appeals based in Washington, D.C. If you are not satisfied with the decision made by your local regional office, you may send your appeal to the BVA where Law Judges will review your claim and issue a Board decision.

United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims

If your claim’s decision from the BVA is still not to your liking, you may file an appeals claim within 120 days of receiving your answer with the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. After receiving the record considered by the BVA, the court will make a decision. If allowed, you may present an oral argument but no new evidence will be considered. In New Mexico, David Standridge of The Standridge Law Firm, P.C. is one of only 6 attorneys licensed to practice at this level.
